Social Problems and Quality of Life

Introduction

Social problem is undesirable condition as viewed by some people in the community e.g. murder or stealing from community members. On the other hand, quality of life is the level of life that people of a certain nation or community can manage to live within.

Identify the attitude, values, and ideologies that tend to perpetuate gender inequality.

Domesticity ideology is very important part that perpetuates inequality as far as gender in concerned. After industrialization revolution men started working in industries and that consumed most of their time. Due to the nature of work men engaged in, women were forced to work at home and through that the condition gave rise to domesticity ideology that creating the notion of separate spheres between men and women. The employment patterns changed but the impact of gender inequality is still encouraged by domesticity asserts Lauer.

What social structural factors contribute to the problems of government and politics?

There are many social structural that add on to politics and government problems. Examples of these factors include; class race and age. Age greatly divide people. The younger age groups are naturally more progressive as compared to the old generation. Lauer went on asserting that, Class on the other hand discriminates against the less privileged. People with power and money, plan their agendas incorporated into government and politics (Lauer & Lauer, 2008). In politics inequality thrives since specific needs are only met for specific race. These factors are drawbacks to government and political progress and they affect the quality of life of Americans

In what ways do these problems affect Americans' quality of life?

Moreover, Lauer went ahead proving that the effects created by government problems and politics in American economy are huge. For instance, when the country is divided through racial discrimination, the quality of work produced is less and this contributes to drop in the economy of the country. Also poor social factors contribute to loss in unity amongst the country members and these results from racial and class discrimination thus affecting the quality of life.

What are some of the important steps to be taken in order to deal with the problems of government and politics?

The problems are to be solved through the introduction of new laws that prohibits discrimination, whether racial or class and allowing each and everyone to interact freely with others and also be able to work anywhere in the country provided a person is skilled and there is employment opportunity.

How does the political-economic system affect the problems related to the American economy and work?

Due to discrimination, the political-economic system mainly affects the job market whereby the poor management of countries economy through politics rendering other people jobless. This raises the level of unemployed people in the country.

Discuss the contradiction between the ideology and the reality of work in America.

In this context we talk about economy and work. In American economy, workforce nature and work nature have been changing overtime. Work is viewed as intimately related to quality of the life for it involves the health of workers. While on the other hand, unemployment also tends to traumatize and it is stressful experience which affects workers adversely with their health and interpersonal relationships. Many of Americans aren't deeply alienated or dissatisfied with work, but they also desire job different apart from what they have. Work-induced stress injuries related to work or illnesses are among hazards of work.

What are some of the major causes of illiteracy, and how can they be avoided?

According to Hudson, It is caused by learning disabilities whereby youths have neurological impairments that are undiagnosed for years. Also cultural differences are other causes of illiteracy. Here, many parents coming from a background whereby reading and education are valued (Hudson, 1987). This contribute much in that parents are not able to read thus cannot be role models to their children. The third one is poverty, due to lack of resources and poor funding in more impoverished areas contributing to illiteracy. Lack of motivation also contributes to rise of illiteracy in that, some of individuals lack motivation to finish school. The illiteracy level can be avoided mainly by strengthening our education policies. Through ensuring the new and old generation access education for free or lower the price offered to access it.

What are the political and economic factors involved in educational problems?

Hudson also on the effects that will occur when the government stops funding institutions, he said that, the quality and level of education also drops due to lack of proper facilities and well trained personnel who will be working for private institutions for more pay. When the government regulate the institutions to steer the policies for education it introduces conflict amongst these institutions for it is capable of manipulating schools in completing and achieving new academic goals. The last one is when unions which are influential political and economic factors in many countries providing labor services of nation's economy. They have the potential of wasting resources through the benefits of teacher like tenure. Through this they inadvertently protect teachers who are ineffective with the underserved security in jobs asserts Hudson.

In what ways is the health problem affected by the family, the economy, and the polity?

Today it is more likely for a typical child to reside in a family where both parents are working. In a few years revolution has occurred on how people bring up their children. About 1.3 million children under eleven years are subje3cted to self care in sometime daily. Typically these parents manage multiple childcare forms as well as two work timetable (Lauer, 2008). Today such families lack a spare grown-up to tackle emergencies, like staying at home with a sick child as well as one who can work to sustain the income of the family in the event of key earner inability to work. Many workers look after other members of the family or elderly parents occasionally or regularly as well s looking after their own wellbeing. Some workers, particularly in managerial and professional jobs, obtain benefit of accommodations of employer, not understanding that  paid ill days, ability to turn up late, or toil at home are not accessible to all workers (Lauer, 2008). Most workers continue to work when sick and this deteriorates their health conditions. Certain protections for ill workers or ill members of the family can be made available only by the managers. Generally these needs are not considered by employers due to the outdated notion that a grown-up stays behind to care for these needs as Lauer asserts.

What innovations could help ameliorate the health problem?

According to Lauer, healthcare innovation persists to be an impetus to poise healthcare fairness and cost control.  Healthcare innovation is the introduction of a latest idea expected to enhance diagnosis, treatment, education research and prevention, and with the lasting target of civilizing safety, quality outcomes, cost and efficiency (Lauer, 2008). Recently hospitals have quickly adopted technology breakthrough in medical devices, treatment and procedures. There has been less concentration in communication and network innovation. With the spectacular progress in network security and transmission of information and images globally, the chance to revolutionize industry of healthcare has not at all been advanced.

Lauer also explained how Information technology has revolutionized health care by more offshore services like mammograms, x-rays and specialist consultations. The use of telemedicine has enabled doctors to provide care to patients in underserved locations. According to Gupta, telemedicine future depends on it's utilize as a measure of lowering cost and workload distribution. Another measure is through health information system integration. Lauer asserted that the systems inhibit chances for global incorporation of information. Sometimes, the chart of a patient in one hospital cannot be interpreted by a different hospital due to encryption conflicts and software failure to switch data by machine.

Also, increased high quality information to patients and doctors contribute to revolutionize healthcare. Recently websites are information sources for patient and doctors (Lauer, 2008). Scientists and doctors post their medical material contribution on these sites. Other innovations include; robots being used to help in therapy delivery with the aim of reducing shoulder and elbow impairments in victims of stroke. Video scopes are used by surgeons to snake through bodies of patients when searching for stomach tumors, removing gall bladders that are diseased or performing colonoscopies.

In at least three to four paragraphs, discuss what attitudes and ideologies legitimate wars and terrorism?

Lauer said that most Americans are thinking that the militants always fight the powerful nations. Until today the militants think that they are fighting to free ordinary people tyranny. Lauer continues to argue that the image is powerful in American while the modern militias claim to be standing for establishment of principles during the American Revolution 200 years. Lauer also believes that, the European Muslims are capable of joining militia groups and carry out attacks in their country unlike the citizens of US who are not interest of joining the groups (Lauer & Lauer, 2008).

What steps could be taken to diminish the possibility of war and terrorist acts?

Nonviolence against terrorism

Terrorism can be controlled by dropping the susceptibility of societies of high technologies to terrorism and sabotage. Recently, a little sum of tools and few people who are knowledgeable are required to get down a huge barrier, an oil refinery or a power plant (Lauer & Lauer, 2008). In a society where people rely on defense methods which are nonviolent, it is not realistic to depend on fertilizer or big power plants. Instead, designed technologies would be needed to be strong against attacks. It would healthier to encourage small scale constructions as opposed to large blocks of office and consider carefully air transport use. Technologies designed and chosen should foster a reasonable solidarity of the community, which later increases the capability for a struggle that is diplomatic.

Timely awareness of attack possibility is another measure of curbing attacks. As such preventive measures can be organized in good time. This is referred to as intelligence. According to Gilliam de Valk, an intelligent system that is nonviolent would work better. The main disadvantage of this measure is that its operation is conducted secretly reducing agency to agency communication and the outsiders.

Another important strategy against terrorism is challenging the conditions fostering terrorism plus repressive regimes, injustice poverty, neocolonialism, torture and exploitation. It is also important to consider a component such as showing results like; peaceful approaches are more effective as opposed to terrorism in conquering repression and oppression. Though it is quite a challenge, in Middle East, there exist exceptional nonviolent strategies and actions but those efforts are surpassed by brutal approaches.

In controlling terrorism, punishment should be exercised by use of savage bombings. These should also be coordinated with substantial detention, raids and persecution of all terrorists. Also there should be military action against the terrorists for instance, Afghanistan political will of declaring war against them and media support by use of the public (Lauer, 2008). The ultimate solution to terrorism is ending exploitation of a country by country and an individual by individual. Religion caste, and gender based discrimination should be done away with. there should be equal distribution of the world's wealth in all the nations to avoid the wars which might be as a result of inequality (Lauer, 2008). Terrorism can also be defeated by establishing a world parliament which mirrors the aspirations and hopes of the whole nation. The destruction power of the world by use of mass destruction weapon is abjured by all nations holding it.

To conclude, the terrorist groups are controlled through introduction of new technology and proper monitoring of their actions and steps taken by them before conducting an attack. The laws governing and protecting countries or nations against terrorism should be strengthened and enforced to those running the terrorist organizations towards achieving a terrorist free world.
